Named after Andrew Thompson and established in 1795, this is the only remaining intact Georgian square from the 18th century in Australia. Windsor played a vital role in the survival of the fledgling colony in Sydney, relying heavily on the Hawkesbury farms and the river to transport their produce.
The surrounding colonial buildings, constructed between 1815 and 1880, have remained largely unchanged. At the top of the square stands the Pioneer Families Memorial, featuring an anchor that symbolizes the river’s crucial role in the town’s early history.
Today, the square is a popular place to relax beneath the shade of beautiful trees, soak in the rich history, and enjoy food from one of the many nearby eateries.
