Riding Out The Drought is a two day horse trail ride experience set in the stunning Southern Flinders Ranges. Running from 1–3 May 2026, the event brings horse riders together for South Australia’s largest organised trail ride, based at the Melrose Showgrounds, where participants camp for two nights and enjoy a relaxed, community focused atmosphere.

Over the weekend, riders head out on two different trail routes, each offering exclusive access to remarkable tracks and landscapes that are usually off limits to horses. These guided rides highlight the region’s rugged beauty, giving participants a rare opportunity to explore the diverse terrain surrounding Melrose.

At its core, Riding Out The Drought aims to support and elevate the Melrose community. By drawing visitors into the region, the event encourages riders and their families to engage with local businesses and tourism operators. It’s designed to boost regional tourism, create positive economic impact, and showcase the warmth and resilience of this iconic township in the Southern Flinders Ranges.

Combining adventure, community spirit, and regional pride, Riding Out The Drought promises an unforgettable experience for riders of all backgrounds.
