Ever wondered what it’d be like to ride through a railway tunnel?

Well, here in the Gladstone region, there is 6 of them.

The Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail (aka BBIRT) takes you through 6 tunnels, constructed nearly 100 years ago and we bring to life the amazing effort, workmanship, tenacity, and vision which resulted in this rail connection being made.

Your guide will bring to life the stories and history surrounding, not only the construction of the 6 tunnels and the track, but also the journeys the first nations people took through this area en-route to the Bunya Mountains and beyond, over the last 40,000 years.

Getting to the bottom of the hill is very easy, even for the most novice of riders, and for those who are keen to pedal off some more steam, can continue on to Builyan another 17 kms along the rail trail, where we will meet up for lunch and some ice cold beers.

Gladstone Region Tours

The Gladstone Region has many stories to be told, experiences to be discovered, and knowledge to be gained. Here at Gladstone Region Tours, your hosts, Darryl and Jenny Branthwaite, will unearth those and take you on a tour that will entertain, inform, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Their Mitsubishi Rosa has been fitted out with 20 luxury leather recliners, which add not only comfort but also leg room—and lots of it.

GRT has just commenced a transfer from and to the Gladstone Airport to the Marina and CBD hotels on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to coincide with the Heron Island Ferry departure and arrival times.

They offer a range of half-day and full-day packages and can also tailor a tour to suit your requirements.

Your host and driver, Darryl, has a vast knowledge of the region, from being not only a local since 1982 but also a very active resident on the local tourism board and then as CEO of the leading tourism authority.

They have tours based on a three-hour experience around the city and region, along with Industry, Cultural, and Arts tours and full-day tours, such as exploring six disused rail tunnels on the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail (aka BBIRT).
