Originally named Merivale Flats and constructed in 1938, Marlowe’s story began almost a century ago.
It’s a place where Rose Dimmich, one of its original residents, is imagined to have polished the good silver before dinner parties. Where the scent of lamb roasts filled the hall on Sundays, and an extra plate was always set for a neighbour.
Today, Marlowe carries on this timeless spirit of hospitality. Marlowe practises the art of making people feel at home, and celebrates the simple pleasure of good company, generous plates of food, and great local wine.
The menu is shaped by dishes the team grew up eating. And, everything that graces the table is grown, fished, and reared by farmers Marlowe knows and trusts, who share a deep respect for how the world around is treated. That same care extends to these walls.
The original layout has been preserved, honouring the bones of this grand old dame, while making room for new memories and special moments.
At Marlowe, the belief is that the best meals happen when you’re not watching the clock. When the conversation is so good, you order another bottle. When dessert turns into a nightcap, and before you know it, you’re the last ones left.
In Marlowe’s eyes, there’s always room for one more.
