In celebration of National Archaeology Week, they are inviting all young archaeologists, historians, actors, storytellers and artists to the Hellenic Museum, for a free workshop exploring the myths and archaeology of theatre in the ancient world.

Starting with a tour of the Hellenic Museum, young explorers will learn about the stories told in ancient myths and plays. Gather storytelling inspiration as you encounter fascinating artefacts, and the millennia-old stories they carry.

Then, it’s your turn in the spotlight. Breaking into small groups, participants will work collaboratively to create a mechanical theatre based on the ancient technology of Heron of Alexandria, using craft materials. Will you help write the story, design the set, or assemble the cogs and gears of the theatre?

No matter the part you play, everyone will come together in the end, and have the chance to perform their original play for parents and guardians. Break a leg.

The 90-minutes workshop includes a brief tour, hands-on crafting and final performance. All materials and guidance is provided.

Recommended for children aged 7–14 years.
