Tucked behind the northern end of Wilsons Promontory, Corner Inlet Marine National Park spans 1,150 hectares within the sheltered, warm waters of Corner Inlet, Victoria’s most easterly large embayment.

The park has two sections divided by a channel, with a Granite Island to the north and Bennison Island to the south. Its habitats range from deep channels and vast seagrass beds to tidal sand and mudflats, sandy beaches, rocky reefs, mangroves and saltmarsh. The park offers excellent recreation, with its calm waters being ideal for boating, sailing, canoeing and kayaking. Beneath the surface, snorkellers and divers can explore thriving seagrass communities and abundant marine life.

The Corner Inlet Marine National Park protects rich seafloor communities rarely found elsewhere in the state. Among the seagrass live large crabs, colourful sea stars, sea snails, tiny squid and fish such as Pipefish, Stingarees, Flathead, Whiting and Flounder. The park is also vital for migratory wader birds, supporting around 20 per cent of Victoria’s total population. It forms part of the internationally recognised Corner Inlet Ramsar Site on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.
