It is a popular spot, especially for students being so close to the university accommodation in Fairy Meadow, as well as families who are staying at the nearby tourist park, Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort.
Fairy Meadow is located three kilometres from Wollongong central business district.
Fairy Meadow Beach is only patrolled during the NSW school holidays, between September to the end of the NSW April school holidays. North Wollongong Beach is the only beach in the area that is patrolled all year round.
The beach south of the play equipment is an off lead dog beach.
