The Illawarra Choral Society opens its 2026 season with Grace and Grandeur, a concert that journeys from radiant celebration to intimate lyricism, featuring works by Vivaldi and Schubert.
At the heart of the program is Vivaldi’s much-loved Gloria, a vibrant and uplifting masterpiece renowned for its energy, colour, and joyful spirit. With its brilliant choral writing and moments of lyrical warmth, it remains one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire.
In contrast, the music of Schubert invites audiences into a more intimate and poetic sound world. His Mass in G blends classical elegance with early Romantic warmth, while Symphony No. 5 highlights his gift for song-like melody, gentle drama, and expressive depth.
Together, these works create a richly varied concert experience — uplifting, reflective, and full of contrast — celebrating choral and orchestral music at its most radiant and deeply human.
Grace & Grandeur promises an afternoon of inspiring music in the beautiful setting of St Francis Xavier Cathedral.
