Rod and Fly Tasmania offers superb guided fishing tours to the translucent waters of Tasmania’s Central Highlands lakes.

Mike Tenner is an accredited guide with over 50 years of fly fishing experience. His love of fly fishing was spawned on glassy English lakes and wild swift Scottish rivers.

The skills and knowledge that began there have been enhanced by a lifetime’s experience on the waters of the world’s favourite fly fishing playgrounds.

Fly Fishing School and Guided Tours

Mike’s experience means that his guided fly fishing trips are first-rate and professionally run. There are no compromises on quality of service or equipment. Typically we use five to six weight rods with floating line, and selected wet and dry flies.

Tours cater for up to three anglers, each trip includes tackle and return transport from Hobart to the lakes (two hours). Two and three day fishing tours, including accommodation and meals are available. You may witness a trout feeding frenzy (water boiling with trout) caused by a sudden dun fly or gum beetle hatch. Rod and Fly is a Tasmanian Tourism accredited business, and a member of Trout Guides and Lodges Tasmania Incorporation. This is your assurance of quality.

Rod and Fly introductory fly fishing classes offer comprehensive instruction in essential fly fishing skills. Mike has been teaching for over 30 years, holding workshops on land and water to help anglers develop and hone correct fishing skills.

Classes are based in Hobart and include all aspects of fly fishing: equipment; fly selection based on the area’s native insects; and casting techniques with overhead casting and line loop presented in detail.
