Now Open at Geelong Sports Museum. Ride through history with Geelong’s newest exhibition celebrating the vibrant culture of BMX—from grassroots beginnings to world-class achievements.

BMX racing in Geelong took off in 1980 when locals formed the Barwon Eagles BMX Club after witnessing American pros in action. By 1981, tracks and clubs were popping up across the region, including Lara, Anglesea, Bellarine, and Corio. Bellarine BMX Club became a powerhouse, hosting major state events and, in 1997, the first UCI BMX World Cup Round in Australia. Today, Geelong Thunder BMX Club proudly continues that legacy.

This exhibition showcases rare bikes and riding gear from local legends like Grant Williams and celebrates next-generation success with World Champion Cameron Gatt. Visitors will learn about the creativity and culture of freestyle BMX, and how BMX and its community values inclusion and welcomes all.

Group bookings are welcome.

Proudly presented in partnership with the Australian BMX Museum, Geelong Thunder BMX, Tailwhips Coaching, and Geelong Stars, and generously sponsored by Gartland.
