Rehersal Room is bringing Billy Elliot to Campbelltown Town Hall Theatre!

Billy Elliot the Musical is a coming-of-age story set during the 1984/85 miners’ strike in Northern England. It follows Billy, a young boy from a working-class mining family, who discovers a passion for ballet and defies his family’s expectations. The musical explores themes of social class, gender roles, and following your dreams, all set to the music of Elton John.

Billy Elliot is set in the fictional town of “Everington” County Durham, in Northern England during the 1984–85 coal miners’ strike. Behind the scenes of Billy is a world of economic decline, social conflict, and community solidarity. The 1984–1985 strike by the National Union of Mineworkers, which was fighting against the closure of pits under the politics of Maggie Thatcher’s government. As Billy finds comfort in ballet, his passion is set against the intense conflict between police and striking miners, financial desperation within the community, and traditional stereotypes. In today’s angry world we could argue that finding your way to ‘Express Yourself” in a community struggling to survive day to day living is a story most can relate to!
