The “Karawatha Cottages Food & Wine Walk” starts right at your cottage, with a 250 m stroll to the Beresford Wine Tasting Pavilion.

You will enjoy their paired Shiraz & Chocolate tasting experience (approx.1 hr) and get a first introduction how food impacts for wine and vice versa.
After that it is time for a relaxed walk (2.5 km, approx. 30 min) on back-roads, alongside vineyards to the Shottesbrooke Wines cellar door.

Here it will be all educational with their From the Ground Up Tasting: during a guided tour of the winery, you will learn about the impact of soil and micro-climate, taste some of the ‘unfinished’ products from the barrel – before heading back into the cellar door to sample the final wines (approx. 45 min).

Time for lunch now, with a 5 min walk to the Currant Shed, to indulge in one of the best lunch experiences in McLaren Vale.

After lunch, you have the choice of walking the short 1.2 km back to your cottage – or give us a call and we will pick you up and transfer you back to your cottage.

At Karawatha Cottages we believe one of the best ways to explore the beautiful McLaren Vale region is to embark on foot or hop onto your bike. It not only takes the question ‘who is driving today’ out of the equation but more importantly, exploring the region on a more leisurely pace and off the main roads also brings you closer to nature and the vineyards.

We have mapped out a range of different walking and cycle trails, all starting at your cottage – with mud maps available in your cottage to guide you along back-roads connecting with official walking and cycle trails.

Most of our trails incorporate food & wine in some form – but there also some that just focus on the beautiful nature and scenery around us: from rolling vineyards to the local flora and fauna of the Onkaparinga National Park.

The “Karwatha Cottages Food & Wine Flight” is taking their popular self-guided “Food & Wine Walk” literally to another level.

Partnering with their friends at Helivista, we have replaced the longer section of the walk with a heli flight:
After your first bespoke wine tasting experience, you will be picked up by Helivista for a scenic flight across the wine region, Onkaparinga National Park and our coastline, before being dropped off at the next winery for your second wine tasting experiences.
A short walk and long lunch at The Currant Shed will conclude this full-day experience for you.
