The CopperString Experience Centre, located at 71 Stanley Street in Townsville’s city centre near Queensland Country Bank Stadium, is an engaging hub for visitors of all ages.
The first of its kind for a Powerlink project, the Centre features eight immersive and educational zones with interactive, hands-on exhibits that bring Queensland’s energy story to life.
The Centre showcases the history of energy in Queensland, the CopperString project, and the vital role the North West Minerals Province and diverse energy generation play in shaping Queensland’s energy future.
The CopperString Experience Centre is free to enter and open seven days a week, excluding Queensland public holidays.

General access
- Offers multiple options for booking – web, email, phone is available.
- Staff are trained in disability awareness.
Communication
Welcomes and assists people who have challenges with learning, communication, understanding and behaviour. (includes people with autism, intellectual disability, Down syndrome, acquired brain injury (ABI), dyslexia and dementia)
- Staff are trained in communicating with people with learning or behavioural challenges.
Physical – Wheelchair
Caters for people who use a wheelchair.
- A step free main entrance to the building and/or reception area (includes ramps or slopes with a maximum gradient of 1:14, otherwise are too steep for wheelchairs)
- Doorways which are easy to open and have lever handles (doorways 850mm or wider when open and not heavy).
- A wheelchair accessible toilet / shower and change room is available.
