The Doric String Quartet. Four voices, an infinite range of expression.
One of the finest quartets of their generation, London’s Doric String Quartet is all about inspiration, whether revisiting a masterpiece by Beethoven or exploring a new work destined to become a classic. Maia, Ying, Emma and John bring “sumptuous sweetness and laser-like clarity” to Beethoven’s rich and strange String Quartet in F Major, Op. 59 No. 1 ‘Razumovsky’, alongside a delicate intimacy in early works by beloved British composer Benjamin Britten.
Then, take an atmospheric walk through the streets of London with Alchymia, a beguiling quintet for strings and basset clarinet by British composer Thomas Adès. Joining the ensemble is Australian star clarinettist Lloyd Van’t Hoff, described by The Age as “a technical and expressive master of his instrument.”
This is classical music at its finest: moments of beauty, intimacy and exhilaration, performed by outstanding international and Australian artists.
