Set against the sweeping sand dunes on Wentworth’s doorstep in NSW, FOSO is a major new art, light and sound installation conceived by internationally renowned British artist Bruce Munro. Now celebrating its 10th year, Munro’s world-class Field of Light at Uluru has captivated more than one million visitors. FOSO builds on this legacy of immersive, large-scale light art.

This time, Munro turns his gaze to another Australian icon: the humble Hills Hoist. FOSO brings together 80 Hills Hoists, each adorned with fibre-optic lighting and representing a different instrument. Arranged to echo the formation of an orchestral pit, these glowing clotheslines transform an iconic piece of Australian backyard culture into something entirely unexpected. As the sun dips behind the dunes, and the hills hoists begin to shine, an original orchestral score by an Emmy Award–winning composer Nainita Desai resonates throughout this outback setting. The result is a sensory journey where sound, light and landscape converge – a luminous open-air symphony stretched across one of the country’s most quietly spectacular settings.

Designed to complement the nearby Trail of Lights – the contemplative light art experience launched in 2025 along the Murray River in Mildura – FOSO strengthens the region’s growing reputation for world class after dark art.
