Fischer-Z will embark on their first-ever Australian tour as part of the band’s worldwide 50th anniversary celebrations.
Although they have never toured Australia, Fischer-Z have enjoyed notable chart success here. Their global breakthrough “So Long” (1980) peaked at #15 on the Kent Music Report, followed by “The Perfect Day” (1987), which reached #12 on the ARIA Charts. These successes cemented a loyal Australian fan base, with Australia now ranking as the band’s fourth-largest Spotify streaming market.
Formed in 1976 by frontman John Watts after his unconventional path from clinical psychology into music, Fischer-Z quickly built a reputation for politically charged songwriting and high-energy performances. Their debut album Word Salad (1979) helped define the emerging post-punk movement, while “So Long” became one of the first music videos broadcast on MTV, propelling the band onto the global stage. Their third album Red Skies Over Paradise (1981) remains a career highlight.
Across five decades, Fischer-Z have released 23+ albums, sold over two million records, and performed 3,000+ concerts worldwide, sharing stages with artists including James Brown, The Police, Dire Straits and Bob Marley.
This year marks a true milestone — celebrating 50 years since Fischer-Z’s formation — and, for the first time ever, bringing that legacy live to Australian audiences.
