“A great hike with an excellent guide. Such a beautiful view on the top of the mountain. Bring plenty of water as it is up hill for 2 k’s. Very well engineered skywalk. You need some fitness to make it all the way to the top. From there, your guide will show you spectacular views and entertain you with intriguing stories of the area, from the traditional Noongar owners to the European settlers. Learn why the area produces award-winning wines and local produce and sample the best of both.” 5 stars David June 2024.

Itinerary highlights

Porongurup

The massive ancient granite domes of Porongurup National Park rise 670 metres, giving exhilarating views of the landscape, especially from the Granite Skywalk, a catwalk suspended from Castle Rock. Porongurup Range is a fascinating place for picnicking and bush rambles. It is a place of incredible biodiversity with 750 native plant species in an area of just 2600 hectares.

Granite Skywalk

Visitors to the Albany area can now enjoy a spectacular new sight-seeing experience following a revamp of the Castle Rock lookout.

The new structure, known as the Granite Skywalk, is located 48km north of Albany in Porongurup National Park.  The stunning panoramic views from Castle Rock were a must-see for anyone visiting the area.

The $1.5million skywalk includes an upper lookout along with a lower lookout to provide easier access for people to enjoy the panorama. There are handholds installed to help people reach a ladder to climb to the upper lookout.

The Castle Rock day-use site has picnic tables, barbecues and toilets, and meets accessibility guidelines for people with disabilities. The park features numerous walks and picnic areas and has an area of karri forest which is approximately 70km from the main karri belt between Manjimup and Denmark. The karri understorey includes some of the very colourful and diverse shrubbery associated with this forest type.

Lunch in alfresco surroundings and views to the Stirling Range National Park

In small cafe with views north to the Stirling Range, relax over lunch. Do a tasting of Ironwood Estate wines to select one to purchase to have with your lunch. Selectsimple, well-prepared food from the menu and relax after your hike.
