Jarndu Ngaank Tours are an Aboriginal women’s-led cultural immersion experience that will provide you a better understanding of Aboriginal culture from a senior cultural women Elder’s experience, that you can take back home and share your stories and insights with others.
Since colonisation, Aboriginal women’s voices have been suppressed as a result of historical injustices and male power has been more uplifted. For example, anthropologists and sociologists in times past when researching, only spoke to Aboriginal men and hence male perspectives have become more elevated in the research literature. Aboriginal women were considered to be subservient and thus it was hard for their voices to be heard.
In current times a women’s perspective is more valued and a women’s role is not just seen as an addendum. The Aboriginal women’s nurturing perspective is being brought to the forefront; they are protectors of cultural knowledge, stories and country. Jarndu Ngaank Tours are a means to right the balance, the female narrative of the tours amplifies the Aboriginal women’s voice as Carers and Custodians of the land.

Town Beach Walk and Talk Experience
A culturally informative 90 minute walk and talk tour right in the heart of Broome (on Djugun and Yawuru Country), meeting down at the Town Beach Beach area, followed by a short (easy grade) walk to the Red Cliffs area. Once at the Red Cliffs you will experience a Welcome to Country (in language and in English) followed by a Smoking Ceremony.
Your Tour Guide, Pat Torres will explain to you the significance of the plants used in the Smoking Ceremony and then share, from the Aboriginal Women’s Dreaming Story perspective, the cultural stories of the site. Time then to sample the delights of some native food snacks while sipping refreshing Bush Tucker tea. Pat will teach you some language words and the tour will end with a chance to ask some questions. This unique Aboriginal cultural tour of Broome is particularly special as it is Pat’s Dreaming Site – her birth site.
What to Bring: Water bottle, long sleeved clothing for sun protection, camera & any personal items you may need for the duration of the tour.
Quandong Point Cultural Immersion
An unforgettable cultural immersion on Ngumbarl/Jabirr-Jabirr country, join Pat Torres with your own 4WD vehicle on the Northern beaches of Broome (45 minutes North of Broome), combined with a 2.5 hour experience.
Travel along the red dusty roads and visit the country, seeing the wild native fruit trees and animals.
Once you’ve arrived at the tour site you will be greeted with a Welcome to Country Ceremony, a Smoking Ceremony and a Water Ceremony. These ceremonies will allow you to learn and reflect deeply about Aboriginal culture (the oldest living culture in the world).
This is a hands-on experience. You will get the opportunity to participate in building a traditional ground oven, cooking fish the traditional way in paper bark covering and also to make damper. While this delicious bush tucker ‘feed’ is cooking, Pat will share with you the powerful Dreaming stories of the area. After morning tea it’s on to learning the Snake Dance and some language words, before returning to your vehicle and heading back to Broome.
Women's Only Walk and Talk Experience
Experience a refreshing and healing women’s only tour on Djugun and Yawuru Country led by your Tour Guide, Elder Pat Torres. Meeting first at the Women’s Centre in Broome before heading down to Reddell Beach by car (a vehicle is required, 2 wheel-drive is suitable) and taking a short (easy grade) walk down the pathway to the Beach. Here is where you will be immersed in a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Water Ceremony. Pat will take you through each of these ceremonies explaining their meaning and the positive impact it can have on your personal well-being.
Following these ceremonies, Pat will share with you women’s stories of this culturally significant site, which will include a further short walk up the beach. From there, it will be time to sample some Bush Tucker refreshments such as Rosella or Davidson Plum Cordial and Sweet Treats, specifically known for their healing properties for women’s health. An opportunity to end the tour with learning some language words and a Q and A time will complete this powerful cultural immersive experience.
Wedding Ceremony Blessing
Nestled in the heart of the Kimberley region, in beautiful Broome, our celebrations are not just ceremonies; they’re living expressions of tradition, heritage, and community.
At the heart of our weddings is the traditional Djugun/Yawuru smoking ceremony and the warm “Welcome to Country” presided over by Djugun elder Patricia ‘Mamanyjun’ Torres.
This is not just a wedding; it’s a journey into the timeless traditions of this land.
Our ceremonies are more than vows; they are a dance between love and culture. The sacred smoking ceremony, a symbol of cleansing and purity, blesses the couple and surrounds them with the ancient wisdom of Country. As the smoke drifts around the newlyweds, it carries the blessings of generations and hope for a harmonious future.
Pat ‘Mamanyjun’ Torres, a respected elder, leads the ceremony with wisdom, warmth, and respect. You’ll not only be welcomed—you’ll be embraced by the land’s spirit and history.
This is more than a celebration; it’s a fusion of hearts, a tribute to heritage, and an invitation to walk on sacred ground. A wedding here unites two hearts with love, tradition, and the enduring spirit of the West Kimberley.
