A perfect introduction to sea kayaking or just a great opportunity to escape from the mainland for a few hours. Embarking from picturesque Shute Harbour, you explore Tancred, Repair and Shute Islands by kayak before stopping over for a swim in the turquoise waters surrounding “White Rock”, a tiny National Park island. You then have time to relax on the island’s white coral beach and enjoy a morning snack before kayaking back to Shute Harbour.
Itinerary highlights
Whitsunday Islands
This is without doubt our most popular guided trip, which can be appreciated by both experienced paddlers and beginners, with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment.
Departing from our base at Shute Harbour, we kayak over fringing coral reefs and explore nearby tropical islands.
These turquoise waters and islands are home to an amazing diversity of marine and bird life including sea turtles and soaring eagles.
Between July and September, there is also a chance to encounter the magnificent humpback whales which arrive to give birth before returning to the Antarctic.
We stop off at White Rock, allowing time to swim, and time to explore the island or kick back and relax. Cold drinks and snacks are provided, allowing time to refresh before heading back to Shute Harbour.
NOTE: Guides occasionally need to reroute the trip, (if weather/sea conditions make it too difficult to get to White Rock). If possible we head to Cane Cockies Beach.

Salty Dog Sea Kayaking
Join the Salty Dog team for an unforgettable experience on one of their fully guided trips or extended expeditions.
Explore the islands by joining a guided short or extended tour or let them customise one to suit you or your group’s special requirements. Alternatively, kayak throughout the Whitsundays at your own pace with a ‘freedom’ rental kayak, camping out under the stars or ‘living it up’ at luxury resort-style accommodation en-route.
Based in the spectacular Whitsundays Islands, Salty Dog Sea Kayaking have been renting kayaks and running kayaking expeditions since 1997. Their qualified staff intimately know the region and enjoy nothing better than sharing this with their friends and guests.
Comprising more than 70 islands, the Whitsunday Island group is the largest offshore island chain on the east coast of Australia. As part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, its tropical, clear, warm waters offer some of the most breathtaking and accessible paddling in the world.
