To walk the entire Great Ocean Walk from Apollo Bay to the impressive Twelve Apostles is a staggering 104 kilometres, taking around eight days. This Great Ocean walking holiday has been carefully curated so that you experience walking the best sections in just three days, allowing you to discover its exceptional natural beauty over a long weekend.

On this three day walking holiday you will experience a diversity of natural landscapes from majestic tall forests and coastal heath-lands to a dramatic coastline like no other with the sandstone sea stacks of the Twelve Apostles its impressive finale. Along the way you will be charmed by the abundant local wildlife you will encounter in this area. It is easy to spot koalas lazing in a gumtree, echidna and wallabies, as well as an array of bird life.

Itinerary highlights

Parkers Inlet to Cape Otway

From Melbourne you will be transfered to the Great Ocean Road with a short stop along the way at Apollo Bay. The walk takes you from picture perfect Parker River Inlet to Cape Otway Lighthouse including Point Franklin and Crayfish Bay. This section of the walk follows a cliff line that, when the foliage clears, affords superb views of the ocean. This is a delightful section of the walk offering the chance to see koalas relaxing in the trees in the eucalyptus forest.

You arrive at this historic Cape Otway Lighthouse, Australia’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse. You will have time there to climb the lighthouse for views down the coast, as well as exploring the aboriginal talking hut and World War II bunker. After the walk you will be transferred along the coast to your accommodation at stunning Alkina Lodge offering a touch of luxury. Enjoy dinner prepared by the lodge’s personal chef featuring high quality local produce matched perfectly with local Victorian wines. Sit back and enjoy the company of your fellow companions in this modern and stylish accommodation.

Milanesia Gate to Moonlight Head

Enjoy a wonderful breakfast with hot and cold options before setting out on the day’s walk. This will be the most challenging day of the tour. You will see the most spectacular and isolated areas of the Great Ocean Walk. From Milanesia Gate, you will walk through the forest to Milanesia Beach. After wandering along the beach, we will start climbing. The trail is dissected by gullies before the climb, which has a great view over Milanesia. Rough tree ferns and stands of remnant Eucalyptus dot the path before an ascent of 138 steps.

After this, the track will go on to another small climb, leading out of the forest to Ryans Den Campsite. Follow the coastal line from here and you will be led to Cape Volney. Then you will head to your accommodation nearby for some relaxation. Late this afternoon you can enjoy an additional walk to Gables Lookout and a visit to Wreck Beach to discover the shipwreck anchors found there.

Princetown – Twelve Apostles – Helicopter Ride

This dramatically beautiful final section of the walk is a fitting finale to your three day walk. You will start your walk across a boardwalk that crosses wetlands and pretty creek that flows into a river. The trail winds through coastal scrub greening the hills between the river and the ocean. You will follow the cliff tops and from every rise there are fabulous views. You will head to Gibson’s steps where you will descend to the beach to views the cliffs from below and visit the impressive limestone sea stacks of Gog and Magog.

You will then continue onto your final destination and admire the rugged splendour of the famous 12 Apostles rising majestically from the Southern Ocean. Created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs over 10 to 20 million years. At the end of the walk you wiil join a helicopter for a spectacular flight over the Twelve Apostles and coastline, a great way to gain a perspective of the grandeur of this region. After lunch the tour will head back to Melbourne.
