Marion’s Vineyard is one of Australia’s most visually spectacular vineyard sites. This second generation family business was established 1979, and was the first cellar door opened in Tasmania in 1983.
The small hectarage is home to favourites Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and also to bigger reds such as Syrah, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc. They also make pet nat, cider Pinot Gris and Sparkling. They have a delightfully small cellar door which spills out onto a lovely deck overlooking the greatest expanse of the river Tamar / Kanamaluka. Their grapevine covered ‘Taverna” (greek word for watering hole), is full of tables and a bar which guests can sit at whilst enjoying a locally sourced platter and wine.
Their second generation business is now certified for organic and biodynamic, with minimal sulphites added. They hope that as the first northern commercial sized vineyard to obtain this certification, they will pave the way for others to follow suit and reduce harmful chemicals and increase biodiversity and carbon captured the beautiful state of Tasmania.
Every decision they make considers their footprint, including the lightweight bottles they use for their wines, the glue and paper on the labels and even the composting toilets! They would love their third generation and their children to continue farming this beautiful piece of northern Tasmania into the future for all to enjoy!
