Mortels Sheepskin Factory is a multi-award winning Australian owned family business in the Hunter Region, two hours north of Sydney, and is the oldest continuously operating ugg boot factory in the world. Mortels is a place to explore history, food, and culture.

Purpose built Australiana shearing shed style premises and fully guided tours are conducted through the factory where visitors can experience the sights and sounds of a fully operational manufacturing plant. Founded in 1958, Mortels manufacturing base is located at Thornton, and retail their locally manufactured product from showrooms in both Thornton and Warners Bay.

Mortels only distribute in Australia through their own retail outlets to preserve their brand and the quality of Australian manufacturing. They also offer a large range of their products through their website. Mortels sheepskins are specially selected from Australian grown sheep.

Visit The Sheep’s Back Museum to enjoy the history of the UGG boot and other culturally significant stories throughout the history of sheepskin manufacturing and raising of wool throughout Australia. The onsite cafe offers a tasty all day breakfast or lunch and don’t forget the gift gallery.

Mortels Sheepskin Factory is proud to be the home of The Big UGG Boots – the biggest ugg boots in the world. Australia’s iconic UGGs are a significant landmark that offers a prime photo opportunity.
