The NAIDOC Cup is a unique football event showcasing emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players aged 13–16 from Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) and Football NSW (FNSW). Held annually, the event combines elite youth competition with a celebration of Indigenous culture, aligning with a nationally recognised week of significance.
The event features U14 and U16 male and female teams, with approximately 128 players selected from across regional and metropolitan NSW. Teams compete over two match days, with cumulative results determining the winning federation. Delivered in partnership between NNSWF and FNSW, the event highlights talent pathways while providing a culturally meaningful experience for participants and spectators.
The NAIDOC Cup has broad appeal to visitors beyond the host Local Government Area, including families and supporters travelling from across Northern NSW and Greater Sydney, Indigenous communities, and football audiences. Its connection to NAIDOC Week enhances its profile, attracting visitors seeking both sporting and cultural experiences.
In addition to direct economic impact, the event showcases the host region as an inclusive and welcoming destination, encouraging repeat visitation. With targeted promotion, the NAIDOC Cup will continue to grow its reach and visitation, contributing to regional economic activity and supporting the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2035.
