Rituals: Gifts for the Gods is a new international exhibition where visitors explore the histories and mysteries of ancient Greek rituals. Experience 119 exquisite artefacts from over a dozen of Greece’s most respected collections, and trace the history of ancient rituals from the earliest cults and sanctuaries of the ancient Aegean, to the adoption of Olympian gods and mythologies.
Across cultures and centuries, ritual has offered humanity a way to connect to each other, the divine, and the mysteries of life and death. ‘Rituals: Gifts for the Gods’ invites visitors on a journey through the sacred landscapes of ancient Greece, where caves, temples and mountaintops echoed with offerings and acts of devotion.
In a rapidly changing world, ‘Rituals’ is a reminder that while beliefs may vary, the human need for connection, meaning and reverence endures. Explore the power of ritual past and present, and reflect on the sacred moments that continue to shape our lives today.
This exhibition is presented by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Greece, and the Hellenic Museum, Australia, generously supported by the Australian Government International Exhibitions Insurance Program and the Victorian State Government.
