Not only is Sappho an excellent second-hand bookshop but it treats customers to a wonderful cafe by day, and a wine bar at night.

With more than 30,000 books on offer in every imaginable category, including many out-of-print and hard-to-find titles, records and sheet music. Sappho Books, Cafe and Bar has something for every reader. The store features two levels of browsing space in an atmospheric old building that is full of character. The store also houses Da Capo Music, one of Australia’s last second-hand sheet music stores which boasts a large collection of out-of-print and popular music, full scores, and music theory.

The cafe serves fresh and delicious food with many vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, all served in the verdant garden courtyard. The Sappho cafe is a coffee specialist and serves high-quality coffee made with a custom blend by Toby’s estate.

At night this comes alive as the wine bar kicks off, usually with live music. The locally sourced wine list is predominantly vegan, as is the cocktail list, the cocktails have funky literary names, and there is a good selection of both regular affordable and craft beers. Menu options include tapas and share platters.
