Itinerary highlights
The Northern Rivers Rail Trail
The Northern Rivers Rail Trail is a 25km long purpose built bike trail that winds through the Tweed hinterland from Wooyung to Murwillumbah, passing through the villages of Crabbes Creek, Mooball, Burringbar and Stokers Siding. It consists of a mixture of tarmac and compacted gravel, easy gradients and all with no cars!. It has many old railways bridges, including historic Mills Creek Bridge and Dunbible bridge and two tunnels, one of which is 524 m long with glow worms.
There is a variety of habitats along the route including open pasture, rainforest and cane fields. The majority of the trail is quite shaded due to the quantity of undergrowth over the years. There are many regular rest stops and cafes for you to visit as well as the Margaret Olley regional gallery.
Murwillumbah
At the end of the Rail Trail you reach Murwillumbah, a great spot for lunch. For art lovers you can make a detour to the Tweed regional gallery and Apex cafe, or visit the M Arts Precinct and Bistro Livi and Murbar (home of the Spangled Drongo Brewery). For more relaxed dining check out Wild Thyme, relish or The Imperial Hotel.
The Rainforest of Urliup Road
After lunch and short ride through the cane fields, the route climbs up into the enchanting rainforest along Urliup Road on the way to Bilambil. A wonderful ride with creek crossings and expansive views across to Wollombin.
he best bit though is the descent , you will feel like you are flying as you glide down, a steep winding road through the towering trees of Duroby Reserve before cruising along the Tweed river to Tumbulgum and Husk Farm Distillery.
Husk Farm Distillery
What a place to end a ride. Relax in the beautiful grounds of Husk Farm Distillery and enjoy a signature Squid Ink gin & tonic. We will come pick you up and return you to the start location at Yum Yum Tree cafe in New Brighton, just in time for an afternoon swim. (its right near the beach)
