If you’re looking for a private beach experience, Steens Beach is the perfect destination for you! Located on northern Hook Island, approximately 32 kilometers northeast of Airlie Beach, this small campground is situated behind a sandy beach, surrounded by rainforest, and offers a beautiful view of Hayman Island. The campsite provides excellent snorkeling opportunities over a small reef flat. Please be aware that the site is closed annually from October 1 to March 31 for sea turtle nesting.
The campground has a sandy and dirt surface and requires a camping permit for visitors. It can accommodate up to 12 people. Open fires are not allowed within the Whitsunday Islands National Park.
Steens Beach is accessible only by boat and is best reached during mid to high tide with a shallow draft boat. Facilities at the campground include a composting toilet and picnic tables. Visitors should bring their own drinking water, rubbish bags, a fuel stove, and insect repellent.
