Only five kilometres west of Melbourne’s City Centre, Footscray is one of Melbourne’s most dynamic neighbourhoods, renowned for its cultural diversity, delicious array of cuisines and creative community. Here you’ll find many of its public spaces and blank walls have been enlivened with large scale murals that explore local stories, environments, and social or cultural themes.
There are currently 26 murals to visit- you’ll see adorable dogs, a ferocious dragon, an astronaut and much more! There’s also a handy downloadable walking map of murals.
The murals were commissioned through Maribyrnong City Council’s StreetWORKS program and developed through collaborations between emerging and established artists with local businesses. You can explore other murals across the City of Maribyrnong via an interactive map on Council’s Love Your West website.
