Surveyors Hill Vineyards offers delicious lunches, seasonal and freshly prepared, on weekends and most public holidays. You can also taste and purchase an interesting range of wines, from sparkling to fortified. The cellar door/bistro overlooks vineyards, olive trees and the Hill itself, with further blue hills in the background. Guest accommodation, including breakfast and dinner on request, is available seven days—the perfect base for exploring the Canberra/Yass wine region.

They are located in Wallaroo, the scenic ‘Hills of Hall’ sub-district of the Canberra wine region, just 10 minutes from the edge of Canberra and 43 minutes from Yass.

All wines are made from grapes grown in smallish patches on our site: in whites, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne; in reds, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Grenache and Graciano. They also grow some Pinot Noir to make a sparkling wine, and have a row of Touriga Nacional that goes into a fortified.

The vineyards are 500–600 metres above sea level on the site of an ancient volcano active in the Silurian, millions of years ago. The result is aging, granite-like rocks, known as ignimbrite, of a coarse structure that yield low-fertility sandy soils. The continental climate is similar to that of central Spain, around Valladolid.

Surveyors Hill Vineyards is dog friendly—in outdoor areas—but not inside the cellar door/bistro or the accommodation.
