Arriving by fast boat as the sun sets over the Timor Sea, you’ll witness nature at its most raw and awe-inspiring.
Here, the land and sea are deeply connected. With permission from the Kenbi Traditional Owners, you’ll step ashore to explore this remote island with expert guides who share their knowledge of marine life, conservation, and the island’s rich cultural and wartime history. As the moon rises and the stars emerge, anticipation builds—you can expect to see a mother turtle arriving to nest, and if you’re very lucky, you may even witness hatchlings making their first journey to the sea.
More than a cruise, this is a journey with purpose. A portion of every ticket directly supports Austurtle’s vital research, ensuring the protection of NT’s Flatback turtles for generations to come.

Nesting Flatback Sea Turtles on Ngulbitjik (Bare Sand Island)
One of the most unforgettable moments of the Turtle Tracks tour is seeing a Flatback turtle emerge from the sea to nest. Under the guidance of our expert team, you’ll watch as she slowly makes her way up the beach, using her flippers to dig a nest in the sand. Once settled, she lays her eggs—continuing a cycle that has existed for millions of years.
This rare and remarkable experience offers a firsthand look at the natural instincts of these ancient mariners. With minimal disturbance and under strict conservation guidelines, you’ll witness the care she takes in covering her nest before making her way back to the ocean.
This is a unique wildlife encounter that highlights the importance of conservation, offering an up-close yet respectful experience with one of the Northern Territory’s most iconic marine species.
