Can you spot a classic wine in the making? Our Winemaker Barrel Tasting is a unique experience where visitors explore the world of ‘unfinished’ wines together with winemaker, Andrew Seppelt. Andrew will explain how wines transform in barrel and what characters we should expect in a particular wine based on its fruit origin, oak origin or barrel type? He will also uncover what is required to make the very best single barrel or reserve wines. Samples will be taken from select barrels throughout the tour, allowing visitors to taste their way through some special wines and to illustrate the various points highlighted. Compare notes with others and have all your winemaking questions answered!
To conclude the experience, we return to the cellar door where you’ll be invited to relax and taste through a selection of finished, bottled Hayes Family Wines.

Hayes Family Wines Experiences
Hayes Family Wines is a small-scale, family owned and run wine producer located in Stone Well in the heart of the Barossa Valley. Our multi-generation vineyards have an enviable track record of producing some of the region’s finest wines. Our wines are made with thought, using organic (our Estate Vineyard and Winery are Certified Organic), sustainable and traditional low-intervention practices, whilst embracing innovation. We have an uncompromising focus on producing the best wines possible; wines that display fruit purity, balance and ageability.
For visitors who really wish to experience Hayes Family Wines, we offer a unique range of bookable ‘behind the scenes’ experiences that will see you enjoying activities as diverse as walking through our vineyard, guided tastings with our winemaker, sampling from special barrels or blending your own tawny port to take home. All experiences are aimed at being fun and informative, pitched at your group’s specific knowledge level. At the end of each unique experience, visitors are invited to relax and taste their way through a selection of finished Hayes Family Wines.
