Experience a historical and unique stay at the YHA Fremantle Prison. Built in the 1850’s it’s the only accommodation in Western Australia with UNESCO World Heritage Status. If you’re feeling adventurous, sleep in the actual prison cells, chill in the former prison yards and outdoor areas, and explore the history of the prison’s inmates.
The property is located within the walls of the gaol and offers a combination of twin share cell rooms and multi-share rooms in former prison buildings, whilst there are family and private ensuite rooms in a completely new section.
Relax with the volleyball court and giant chess set, enjoy the grassed courtyard, or use the modern self-catering kitchen.
Start your visit to Fremantle with a tour of the historic Fremantle Gaol, before exploring this charming town. There are lots of popular bars, cafés and restaurants close by. Use the train to get into the centre of Perth in minutes, or take a day trip to Rottnest Island.

Now fully modernised, this is still a very authentic experience. The bathroom is at the end of the corridor. Enjoy all the other hostel facilities including big outdoor area, large kitchen and games room.
