For those curious about the region’s past, interpretive signs along the way reveal the fascinating history of salt production on the Yorke Peninsula.

There are four different trail options to suit your schedule, each marked with its own colour-coded and numbered signage to help you stay on track. Be sure to check the Salt Lake Trail map for estimated drive times and to match the colours with the route that suits you best.

Your journey begins at Weaners Flat Reserve, located on Stansbury Road in Yorketown. Head down to the edge of Par Lake, where you’ll find the main information signboard with details on each trail and deeper insights into the Peninsula’s salt story.

The salt lakes are ever-changing and worth visiting throughout the year: Winter brings lush green landscapes, full lakes, and breathtaking reflections. Spring attracts native and migratory birds in large numbers. Autumn often sees the lakes veiled in early morning fog. Summer reveals dry, vibrant lakebeds in brilliant colours.
