Highlights

  • Immerse in the rich Taungurung culture through a Welcome and Grounding ceremony at the Euroa Arboretum.
  • Explore the daanak trail while discovering seasonal native plants and their traditional uses for food and medicine.
  • Savour bush foods and engaging stories that celebrate the seasonal abundance of this regenerated Country.
  • Enjoy a unique small group experience in a tranquil environment, fostering meaningful connections with cultural guides.

You are welcomed to the Euroa Arboretum (the Arb), a regenerated pocket of Taungurung Country that is actively achieving positive outcomes for healthy Country (biik). Learn about the proud Taungurung story, alongside the inspiring Euroa Arb story. This experience is as much about the celebration of meaningful partnerships as it is about our proud Culture and biik.

In this environment of regenerated grassy woodlands, typical of what Country would have looked like pre-colonisation, your Cultural guides share the ways in which cultural life, both traditional and contemporary, are inextricably linked to healthy biik. Begin with a Welcome and Grounding ceremony, followed by a guided walk along the daanak trail to learn of seasonal native plant species and their uses for food, medicine, fibre and cultural practice. Taste bush foods, enjoy yarns and give thanks to the seasonal abundance and diversity of Country.

wawa biik – Taungurung Cultural Experiences

Wumindjika. wawa biik offers Taungurung-led cultural experiences across diverse biocultural landscapes of Taungurung Country. ‘wawa biik’ means ‘hello country’ in Taungurung language – both a recognition of the deep importance of Country to all Taungurung People and a warm invitation to the wider community to say hello to Country and deepen their relationship with Taungurung culture.

Experiences immerse visitors in the Taungurung story – a resilient and inspiring story that spans thousands of years. Spend time with Country, hear stories of cultural heritage, the impacts of colonisation and cultural practices and ingenuity. Choose from half day experiences in Nagambie and Euroa.

All experiences are led by knowledgeable Cultural Tour Guides and include a Welcome Grounding Ceremony, yarning circle, guided cultural walk and morning tea.
