Devil dominance

Step into Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary and feel the Tasmanian bush come alive around you. You’ll be invited into the hush of a wild den where keepers guide you to meet one of our resident Tasmanian devils and hand-feed these wild-hearted creatures. Then comes the thrill: a tug-o-war with a real Tasmanian devil. With jaws that open a startling 80 degrees and a bite force of 3000 psi, their power surges in a rush you’ll feel all the way to your fingertips. Only for 18+ visitors.

Hidden in plain sight

Move beneath the cool shade of trees at Trowunna and feel the soft stillness of Tawny Frogmouths around you – birds so perfectly camouflaged they seem carved from the branches. Meet them up close and hand-feed these masters of disguise. Often mistaken for owls, they’re actually close kin to nightjars. Keepers will show you how they disappear into bark and shadow, and explain their role in the ecosystem. Winter’s bare branches make their camouflage even more remarkable.
