A century apart – two heritage-listed conservatories
There are very few buildings within your Adelaide Park Lands that are actually Open, Green, Public. We’ll be visiting two of them. Both are heritage-listed: one from the 1870s and the other a 20th century icon.
First Creek wetlands
Inspect a wetland ecosystem, constructed in 2013 to harvest stormwater for irrigating and drought-proofing the Botanic Garden.
Auracaria avenue
Tall specimens, planted in 1868, from a family of tree species that have been around since the time of dinosaurs.
Moreton Bay fig tree avenue
Planted 1866: the most iconic feature of the Garden, providing a shady canopy all year around – the oldest surviving such avenue anywhere in Australia.

Adelaide is the only city in the world garlanded by Park Lands. In effect the city is built inside a park, and each part of the Park has its own unique features, heritage, and current usage.
Guided Walks are led by trained Tour leaders and can take between 90 minutes and two hours depending upon the location.
