Alabama offers boutique budget rooms in the heart of Hobart. The original pubs’ rooms have been given a new lease on life in this latest version of an old Hobart institution. Each of the 17 rooms is unique, decorated with original art, vintage touches and a personal vibe not found in sterile hotel chains.
The Alabama rooms have remained in their original layout since the hotel was opened in the 1850s. While this means there are no ensuite bathrooms, there are a number of male and female showers and facilities on each floor. It also means that the hotel can keep prices as low as possible for guests looking for clean and comfortable accommodation that doesn’t break the bank.
The Alabama is about as central as you can get in Hobart, just a couple of doors down from the Elizabeth Street Mall. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Hobart’s vibrant waterfront, excellent city restaurants and pubs, weekend markets and the best coffee in town. The gorgeous deco-façade makes a fantastic backdrop when sitting on the hotel’s sunny balcony, watching Hobart go by…

Standard Queen
The Alabama Standard Queens are cosy and compact rooms, perfect for singles and couples. They feature a Queen sized bed, hanging space for your clothes and some sweet vintage touches. Maximum occupancy is two people.
Twin Room
Travelling with a buddy, or your brother, and don’t really fancy sharing a bed? They have a handful of twin rooms with two single beds. There is a room to hang your stuff, and local art on the walls. The twin rooms are right at the back of the building, so they tend to be nice and quiet.
Deluxe Room
These rooms feature a queen sized bed and loads of extra space to stretch out in. They’re the biggest rooms, with large windows and a view down Liverpool Street. They face the street, so if a little traffic noise will keep you up, a Standard Queen room might work better. Just ask when you book.
