The Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway offers a special heritage train ride experience on a fully restored 1905 Peckett Steam Locomotive. With it’s 1913 fully restored wooden passenger carriage, the train operates from Herberton Railway Station to the Historic Village Herberton and return. In late 2025 will also run to Moomin and return to Herberton.

The steam train ride operates on selected weekends (see the online booking system on the website for details) both Saturdays and Sundays, plus most public holidays.

Operated by an all volunteer group who are passionate about restoring historic rolling stock and progressing with upgrading the 22 kilometres of railway line between Herberton and Atherton.

In time they will have operations between the two centres running rail motors over the Herberton range. They also have an extensive workshop and restoration centre and railway museum in Herberton.
