Join Emily in an all-day Botanical Still Life Workshop where you will be given your own art kit, which you will take home with your finished piece along with the skills and knowledge to continue your painting journey.

This is not a paint-and-sip type workshop, you will be learning the technical skills of sketching and composing an acrylic painting including how to mix colours and layer them together with different brush techniques to achieve depth and movement so your painting doesn’t fall flat or look cartoonish.

You will learn everything from priming your surface and the importance of the base colour, through to basic composition and colour theory, before learning to break down complex shapes into manageable forms and how to use shadows and highlights without desaturation. Finally she will guide you on defining the foreground of your painting and create directional lines and open shapes to avoid the cartoonish look.

As beginners, Emily knows you will make mistakes and will show you the tricks to make your mistakes disappear without throwing out hours of work! For more experienced painters she can tailor the tuition to what you need to further your practice.

Throughout the day you will have plenty of time for working on your painting with lots of feedback and assistance from Emily in this intimate class of no more than 10 students.
