The Duck River Meadows Robotic Dairy is a state-of-the-art automated dairy, located in far North West Tasmania, offering daily tours throughout the facility.
Join one of the enthusiastic, knowledgeable tour guides and be captivated by the futuristic robotic production of the purest milk Tasmania can produce. The Dairy is also home to the La Cantara Cheese factory. Occasionally, there will be days when you may see the Cheesemaker creating their artisan cheeses.
The tour concludes at the Duck River Meadows Pavilions where you are welcome to sample and purchase their unique range of delectable crafted cheeses. A wonderful opportunity to take home products that you have witnessed the fascinating production process from paddock to plate.
Located just under two hours from Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania terminal, the Duck River Meadows Robotic Dairy is just 15 minutes from Stanley. A great experience on route to explore the Tarkine Drive, or traveling south to Strahan.

Robotic Dairy and Cheese Tours
The new Duck River Meadows Robotic Dairy is a remarkable state-of-the-art facility housing the incredibly pure, creamy cheeses that are produced on site. La Cantara Artisan Cheeses are created from the lush grass fed cows, aged and delivered right to our consumers.
Hop on board the bus with our friendly, experienced guide who will describe the hump and hollow drainage system as you pass the fields lining the lane to the dairy shed. Observe some of the happiest cows on earth as they graze the greenest pastures and breathe the worlds cleanest air. Inside the Dairy you are treated full view of our beautiful cows being milked by the Lely robots in our purpose built observation room.
The ladies come in voluntarily throughout the day for milking, snacking and well earned head scratches. Learn the history of dairy farming and cheese making and how this area produces some of Australia’s highest quality milk.
The tour concludes back at the Duck River Meadows Pavilions where you are welcome to sample and purchase the unique range of La Cantara Cheeses. A wonderful opportunity to take home products that you’ve witnessed the entire manufacturing process from paddock to plate.

Duck River Pavilions signature experience
Embark on a winter guided tour of the Duck River working robotic dairy where machines milk healthy cows, and see the La Cantara Artisan Cheese factory. Return to Smithton’s Visitor Centre and taste the results: sample artisan cheese, Leche Fresca milk and local Blue Hills honey, followed by house-made scones served three ways in the Pavilion Cafe. Finish at the Circular Head Heritage Centre to explore the region’s farming history. Winter means more rain nourishing the farm’s green paddocks.
