Dixon Street is a pedestrian mall located on Dixon Street in Haymarket, between Hay Street and Goulburn Street. Originally it was a timber storage yard and after Chinese people began to move into Haymarket in the 1920s, Chinese people started using the site as a place to set up cook shops and to cater for the suburban Chinese market gardeners who came to the city to sell their produce.
Gradually, more restaurants, grocery stores, butchers and fruit and vegetable shops were opened to meet the needs of the Chinese population concentrated in the city area. Today, this is the iconic street of Chinatown Sydney, is where you will find many great Asian eateries and local goods.
