Itinerary highlights

The first arboretum in South Australia

Established in the 1920’s by the City Council and named after then-Councillor George McEwin. The trees pre-date the much more extensive Waite Arboretum at Urrbrae.

Grundy Gardens

The distinctively landscaped banks of the River Torrens between Albert Bridge (Frome Rd) and Adelaide Bridge (King William Rd), featuring dry stone walling.

Memorial to “Forgotten Australians”

Huge metal flowers (gazanias) installed in 2010, honouring children who suffered abuse in institutional and out-of-home care.

Peace Park

Site of a former “snake park” and “koala farm” Peace Park provides a counter-point to war memorials erected elsewhere

Angas Gardens

A State Heritage Place – a memorial to pioneer pastoralists George Fife Angas and his son John Harris Angas. Nearby, the 2012 Robert Hannaford statue of Simpson and his donkey

Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden

A tribute to the pioneer women of South Australia with a statue representing “the spirit of womanhood capable of giving birth to a nation”

Adelaide Park Lands Walking Tours

Guided Walks to explore little-known nooks and crannies of Adelaide’s greatest treasure: the unique open spaces of its Park Lands.

Adelaide is the only city in the world garlanded by Park Lands. In effect the city is built inside a park, and each part of the Park has its own unique features, heritage, and current usage.

Guided Walks are led by trained Tour leaders and can take between 90 minutes and two hours depending upon the location.
