Highlights

  • Explore the wild beauty of Victoria's far south west coast, immersing yourself in breathtaking landscapes and diverse wildlife.
  • Hike through the Southern Grampians, discovering the ancient Gariwerd ranges and their rich cultural heritage.
  • Savour exquisite local food and wine, culminating in a memorable dining experience at the Royal Mail in Dunkeld.
  • Enjoy comfortable stays at a charming guesthouse in Portland and the scenic Mount Sturgeon Homestead, enhancing your adventure.

The far south west coastal region of Hedonistic Hiking’s home state Victoria is wonderfully wild and remote. The tour explores this fascinating landscape before heading north across the plains to the spectacular mountains of the Southern Grampians.

Traditional owners have been occupying these ranges for thousands of years and refer to them as Gariwerd. With three nights in each location the tour offers a fantastic variety of hikes, seeing seal colonies, volcanoes, petrified forests, and a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

As with all Hedonistic Hiking tours, the focus is on the very best local food and wine, as well as the walking. Experienced guides Jackie and Mick Parsons are with the group every step of the way, looking after all the creature comforts and sharing their knowledge of the region.

The final evening is at the renowned Royal Mail in Dunkeld, a restaurant with an outstanding working kitchen garden and also an award-winning wine cellar.

There are two accommodations: a charming guesthouse in Portland by the coast, and Mount Sturgeon Homestead in Dunkeld at the southern tip of the Grampians.

The meeting and drop-off point is Ballarat.

Operation information

Hedonistic Hiking

Hedonistic Hiking is a small company operated by experienced guides Jackie and Mick Parsons. For almost 20 years they have been offering all-inclusive luxury gourmet guided walking holidays in Victoria and Europe. In Australia the scheduled tours explore the Victorian High Country, the Grampians, the Goldfields Track and the Great Ocean Walk.

The tour groups are small and friendly and the walking is enjoyably challenging. There is a support vehicle on most days enabling guests to walk as much or as little as they please. A mixture of fine dining experiences and gourmet picnic lunches ensures that guests sample the very best food and wine the regions have to offer.

Hedonistic Hiking is committed to supporting small, local businesses and accommodation and restaurants are carefully chosen for each tour.

Jackie and Mick spend half the year in Victoria and are passionate about the food, the wine and the walking of this region. They lead each tour themselves and offer a high-quality service, and it is this above all which brings people back to Hedonistic Hiking year after year.
