Experience the awe of Nan Tien Temple, a must-see destination in Wollongong. Just 90 minutes south of Sydney, it is the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere and a State Heritage–listed landmark, recognised for its architectural beauty, cultural significance, and role as a hub for mindfulness, wellbeing, and intercultural community connections.

Local and overseas visitors join meditation sessions, enjoy vegetarian cuisine at the Tea House or Arts Cafe, explore the Art Gallery and Museum, take part in festivals, special events, retreats, weddings, and monthly markets throughout the year. Whether wandering the grounds quietly or joining a guided tour, every visit offers something inspiring. Open six days a week with free entry, ample parking. All are welcome.

Nan Tien is a branch of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order, founded in Taiwan in 1967 by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, with 200 branches worldwide. Rooted in the Mahayana tradition, Fo Guang Shan teaches that Buddhahood is within everyone’s reach and promotes Humanistic Buddhism, bringing mindfulness and compassion into everyday life.
