A stone’s throw from the harbour, our spacious Maugean Suites offer breathtaking views across Macquarie Harbour to the historic Strahan township and wharf. Named after the endangered Maugean Skates, an ancient and unique ray only found in Macquarie Harbour and is critically endangered; our Maugean Suites feature a central living area and two separate bedrooms, making these suites ideal for families and small groups. Every stay in one of our beautiful Maugean Suites helps to raise awareness for this magnificent ray to help prevent the Maugean Skate from becoming the world’s first ray species to become extinct in modern times. Journey from Mount Owen’s frost-dusted peak to the preserved Jukes copper mine tunnels in one winter day. Then descend underground into rarely-accessed mine drifts where you’ll swing a pickaxe and share a three-course miners’ crib lunch on the mine floor with hearty Tasmanian dishes, hot spiced cider and lantern light dancing across rock walls.
