Itinerary highlights

Darlington

We arrive at the jetty in Darlington, a former convict penal settlement and probation station of the early-mid 1800’s, and at the site of a historic stone building, the Commissariat Store. Alighting from the ferry you will be surrounded by breathtaking scenery and an abundance of nature – one of the local wombats may be there to welcome you too. The walks we take are not overly challenging and the relaxed pace allows you to immerse yourself in all the sights while enjoying many a wildlife encounter and plenty of time for taking photos.

Painted Cliffs

Our leisurely walks will fill you with breathtaking scenery along the coast to Painted Cliffs.

Spend some time admiring the stunning golden swirls on the cliffs created over millions of years through iron oxidisation and patterns from wave action.

Throughout the walk, keep an eye out for any one of the many, many wombats, kangaroos and other wildlife and abundance of bird species that call Maria Island home.

Triabunna and Mercury Passage

Triabunna is a quaint fishing village where the passenger ferry departs for Maria Island.
While travelling on the ferry, you may be fortunate to catch a glimpse of a dolphin swimming alongside the vessel or an eagle overhead.

Orford, Triabunna and Mercury Passage

Travel from Hobart, along Tasmania’s east coast, through Sorell, alongside the Prosser River, through Orford and onto Triabunna. Triabunna is a quaint fishing village where the passenger ferry departs for Maria Island.

While travelling on the ferry across the Mercury Passage, you may be fortunate to catch a glimpse of a dolphin swimming alongside the vessel or an eagle overhead.
