Itinerary highlights
Coal Mines Historic Site
The Coal Mines Historic Site is a unique site that is part of the epic story of convict discipline and punishment on the Tasman Peninsula. Situated amidst a coastal forest, the natural beauty and picturesque surrounds of this area somewhat contradicts the bleakness of the convict era.
Alternatively, you may like to visit the Port Arthur Historic Site – the larger, iconic historic convict site in the area.
Tessellated Pavement
A unique coastal rock formation that you just have to see to believe.
Tasman Arch and Devil's Kitchen
Fascinating coastal rock formations that were once (in ancient times) small sea caves that have been eroded through wave and tidal action.
Remarkable Cave
A place where coastal sea cliffs will mesmerise you and a rock formation that if you look carefully is uniquely shaped just like the outline of Tasmania.
The Dog Line
In the days when Port Arthur and The Coal Mines were active convict settlements, there was a line of vicious dogs across the breadth of Eaglehawk Neck… they were placed there to prevent convicts escaping. A story that will intrigue.
Pirates Bay Lookout
Panoramic views of the Tasman Peninsula and the highest sea cliffs in the southern hemisphere, which includes The Lanterns, The Candlestick and Cape Raoul (one of the ‘Three Capes’).
