More than 250 hits from the international festival circuit have their Victorian premieres, with many screening exclusively at the festival.

The Melbourne International Film Festival showcases the most talked-about films of the year – world premieres, award winners, and highly anticipated titles from Venice, Cannes, Berlin, and Sundance. The program includes a rich lineup of special events, international talent, filmmaker Question and Answer sessions, XR experiences, talks and the Festival Hub.
The industry program offers a diverse range of programs, including professional development opportunities, masterclasses, and content financing initiatives. It attracts leading industry professionals from Australia and around the world. Other programs include the festival’s dedicated program for teachers and students with MIFF Schools, an expansive state-wide program with MIFF Regional, and select festival highlights streaming via ACMI Cinema 3 with MIFF Online.
The 2026 program includes free and low-cost activities together with ticketed events. Annually, the festival attracts more than 180,000 attendees, making it one of the top film festival audiences in the world.

Hearing
Caters for people who are deaf or have hearing loss.
- A hearing loop is available.

- Caption all entertainment (TVs, live shows, performances) is available.
- Transmitter receivers for hearing aids on tours are available.
- A low noise reception areas with hearing loss friendly acoustics and adequate lighting for viewing facial expressions (includes common areas which are free of background noise, background music) is available.
Physical – Mobility
Caters for people with sufficient mobility to climb a few steps but who would benefit from fixtures to aid balance. (This includes people using walking frames and mobility aids)

- Step free outdoor pathways (includes picnic areas, barbecues and shelters)
- A step free main entrance to the building and/or reception area (includes ramps or slopes with a maximum gradient of 1:14, otherwise are too steep for wheelchairs)
- Step free access to restaurant, lounge and bar
- Accessible seating areas in theatrette
- Lifts with enough space for people using a mobility aid to enter and turn around to use the lift buttons. Buttons are at accessible height.
- Doorways which are easy to open and have lever handles (doorways 850mm or wider when open and not heavy).
- An accessible public toilet which is unlocked.
- Wheelchair accessible transport options available in the general vicinity (provide information on name of the operator, phone and website link to individual providers for private vehicles, community transport train, mini vans, hire cars, buses, taxis, ferry, tram, light rail etc in their access statement).
