Itinerary highlights
Hotel / Air BNB pick up
They will collect you from your accommodation – no need to meet them at a pick up point. Simply provide them with the address during the booking process.
Split Point Light House (optional)
Perched above the cliffs at Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road, Split Point Lighthouse—nicknamed “The White Queen”—has guided ships through Bass Strait since 1891. Visitors can climb the tower on a guided/self-guided tour for stunning 360° coastal views over Eagle Rock and the surrounding shoreline, and hear stories of lighthouse keepers and local shipwreck history. It’s also famous as the exterior filming location for Round the Twist.
Anglesea
A relaxed seaside town on the Surf Coast, Anglesea is a great early Great Ocean Road stop for fresh sea air, coastal views, and a quick coffee break. Depending on timing, you can stretch your legs along the beach or river precinct and keep an eye out for local wildlife in the surrounding bushland before continuing west along the coastline.
Lorne / Teddy's Lookout
One of the Great Ocean Road’s most loved coastal towns, Lorne is a perfect stop to soak up the seaside atmosphere. Enjoy a stroll along the foreshore, browse local cafés and shops, and take in sweeping views across Louttit Bay before continuing the journey along Victoria’s iconic coastline.
Just above Lorne, Teddy’s Lookout is a standout photo stop with sweeping views over the Great Ocean Road’s winding curves and the St George River meeting the sea. With a smaller car park, it’s a highlight that many larger coaches can’t easily access — making it an iconic photo opportunity for private travellers.
Kennett River
One of the Great Ocean Road’s best wildlife stops, the Kennett River Koala Walk offers a great chance to spot wild koalas resting in the eucalyptus canopy. It’s an easy, flat stroll along Grey River Road, starting near Kafe Koala General store — follow the quiet dirt track between the café and the holiday park/RV area. While sightings are never guaranteed (they are wild animals), this is one of the region’s most reliable places to look, with excellent photo opportunities when conditions are right.
Apollo Bay
Set between the Southern Ocean and the lush Otway hinterland, Apollo Bay is one of the Great Ocean Road’s classic seaside stops. It’s an ideal place to pause for lunch, stretch your legs along the foreshore, and enjoy the relaxed coastal vibe before continuing west toward the Otways and the iconic limestone coastline.
Mait's Rest Rainforest walk
Step into the cool, ancient beauty of the Otways on the Maits Rest Rainforest Walk — an easy, family-friendly 800 metre loop on a self-guided boardwalk through temperate rainforest. Wander beneath towering Myrtle Beech trees and lush tree ferns, with interpretive signs along the way and a peaceful forest floor atmosphere that feels worlds away from the coast. It’s a perfect short nature break near Apollo Bay and one of the best quick walks on the Great Ocean Road.
12 Apostles
One of Australia’s most iconic coastal sights, the 12 Apostles are dramatic limestone stacks rising from the Southern Ocean along the Shipwreck Coast. Take in sweeping views from the purpose-built viewing areas and walking paths, watch waves crash against the cliffs, and capture unforgettable photos in every direction. It’s a true highlight of the Great Ocean Road especially in the softer light of late afternoon and sunset.
