In this practical storytelling session, Dr Sandra Delaney will share how Aboriginal stories can be created and brought to life through language and art. Sandra will begin by reading one of her stories and explaining how the idea for the story first came to her through Country, culture, and community knowledge.

Participants will learn how Sandra embeds Jandai language, cultural meaning, and visual art into her storytelling to help children and families connect with culture and language in a natural and engaging way. She will talk about how words, images, and stories work together to carry knowledge and keep language strong.

Following the reading, participants will take part in a hands-on activity where they will explore simple Jandai words and phrases, then create their own short story idea or sentence. They will also have the opportunity to illustrate their story through drawing or artwork.

This session encourages creativity, listening, and cultural learning, showing how storytelling, language, and art can be powerful tools for sharing culture and keeping language alive for future generations.
